Law Day hosted by the Richmond Bar Association
RPA Members, Teresa A. Clark, ACP; Kimberly A. Paulsrud, ACP and Kitty Bice, ACP attended the Richmond Bar Association Law Day Luncheon on May 1, 2019, which was held at the Omni Hotel downtown. RBA's annual event featured speaker G. Zachary Terwilliger, US Attorney for the Easter District of Virginia. The Event also highlights the Association's year in review, and swearing in of the 2019-2020 Board of Directors, who will take office on June 1, 2019.
Happy New Year RPA! It’s a new year and that means a clean slate. There is something about having a whole year before me, with a new calendar and all of those days with nothing scheduled (for the moment…) that is so motivating to me. Take some time this new year, in your new day planner or journal, to reflect back on your paralegal career and your involvement with RPA thus far. What skills have you learned? What goals have you reached? What is still left to accomplish? What do you aspire to do in 2019? How can you make a difference in your position at the office?
One of the best ways to make a difference and reach your goals is to become involved with RPA, whether it be serving on a committee or serving on the board. Share your knowledge, your experiences and your voice with RPA. Contact one of RPA's board members to discuss how you can make an impact in Membership, Education, Communication and Outreach, Nominations and Elections, and Mentoring Committees. Spread the word about RPA to your community, your peers, your employers. Get involved, make a difference.
The RPA Board met this past Saturday, January 12th, to plan the year. Discussions included a monthly blog, a quarterly newsletter, the upcoming NALA convention in July, Law Day in May, CLE subjects, networking opportunities, CLE fall seminar, October Paralegal Reception, and our annual meeting in November. Buckle your seat belts because we've got an exciting year planned!
In closing, it is an honor to serve as President this year. I look forward to seeing each of you at our upcoming RPA events. More importantly, I look forward to hearing your voice!
Kimberly Paulsrud, ACP
Mission and Purpose
The Richmond Paralegal Association (“RPA”) is a non-profit corporation organized December 8, 1982, under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
RPA's mission is to foster professionalism, continuing legal education, public service and networking for paralegals in Central Virginia.
RPA members are from metropolitan Richmond and surrounding counties.
RPA members benefit from network opportunities, continuing education programs, an employment job bank, On The Record quarterly newsletter, affiliation with the National Association of Legal Assistants (“NALA”) and the Virginia Alliance of Paralegal Associations (“VAPA”), and much more.
RPA encourages all members to take an active role in their profession by volunteering in the community through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. Through participation in these programs, members find opportunities to network with local attorneys, paralegals, court personnel, and community leaders while gaining invaluable real world experience.
RPA supports new paralegal development at many levels, offering student memberships, providing scholarship opportunities for promising candidates, offering a mentor program to help recent paralegal graduates make the transition from school to successful employment as a paralegal, and hosting a CLA/CP study group to assist members in adding credentialing to their profession.
